Press release: Excess heat from PDC's supercomputer keeps KTH building warm

The Chemistry building is kept warm as a part of PDC's heat re-use project.

As a part of PDC's ongoing work to reduce its environmental footprint we are engaging in a heat re-use project. Excess heat from the Cray XE6 supercomputer Lindgren is being used to heat a building used by the School of Chemistry Science and Engineering at KTH campus.

Two years ago PDC started a project together the KTH property owners Akademiska Hus  to re-use energy that is used at KTH campus. With the start of the cool period in Sweden the system is now taken in full use.

"Even if the energy to some extent has been re-used in the district cooling system we have always been looking for a more efficient system which would also save us some money" says Gert Svensson, Deputy Director at PDC.
