Part-Time Student Support Jobs at PDC

Autumn 2019 (& Spring 2020)

Published Aug 21, 2019

We need more students to work in Support!
Would you like to work with the large high performance computer at KTH?

About PDC

The PDC Center for High Performance Computing is the leading Swedish supercomputing centre and is hosted by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources. Amongst these systems is Beskow, a 2.4 petaflops Cray XC-40 system with over 67,000 cores.

Role Summary/Purpose

PDC is looking for students to help with several of the following tasks during the autumn and winter of 2019-2020:

  • answering support questions from PDC's users,
  • participating in the PDC user support team,
  • writing and testing documentation for PDC's resources,
  • communicating with PDC's system and application experts to assist with more advanced user questions,
  • helping PDC system staff with everyday work, and
  • monitoring PDC resources.

Qualifications/Requirements

MSc, BSc or PhD students with an interest in hardware or software aspects of computing are invited to apply. Experience in parallel computing is an advantage (for instance, previous attendance at the PDC Introduction to High Performance Computing Summer School). You need to be able to use Linux-based systems, and communicate in English with ease. (Note that you do not need to be able to speak Swedish.) It is also important that you can work independently (after being given instructions) and that it is easy for others to work with you. If you are the kind of person who takes the initiative when things need to be done, that will be a definite plus! MSc and BSc students can apply directly for part-time positions at PDC. However, if you are going to be starting a PhD position at KTH soon, please contact PDC directly to discuss the possibilities of a part-time job as the process is a bit different for PhD students.

Application

Application deadline: 30 August 2019

The application should include the following documents:

  1. a curriculum vitae, and
  2. a brief description of why the applicant is interested in the position.

For details about how to apply see:  under “Support Engineering at PDC”.
