About PDC

PDC is the leading Swedish supercomputing center hosted by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources with different characteristics, ranging from loosely-coupled high-throughput systems to high performance capability systems and SMPs. Amongst these systems is the CRAY XE6 supercomputer Lindgren (with 36,000 cores) - one of Europe's most powerful systems with a theoretical peak performance of over 300 TFLOPS.

Role Summary/Purpose

PDC is looking for one or more people to help out with some of the following tasks:

  • answering support questions from PDC's users,
  • documentation and testing documentation for PDC's resources,
  • development of auto-generated web page information,
  • studying software performance on PDC resources,
  • helping PDC system staff with everyday work,
  • monitoring PDC resources, ...and lots more!

Qualifications/Requirements

  • MSc or BSc students with a documented interest in and curiosity about computers (hardware and software).
  • Experience in parallel computing is an advantage (for instance, previous attendance at the PDC High Performance Computing Summer School).
  • Being able to use Linux-based systems, and communicate in English (with ease), is required.
  • Documented skills in web development are also a plus.

Desired Characteristics

You should be easy to work with and have the ability to work independently, after being given instructions.

It is a plus if you are responsible and having the initiative to just do what needs to be done!

Contract

Each contract would be for six months initially (preferably starting in September 2012), with the possibility of extension. Work schedules can be arranged to suit individual study plans. The positions will be from 20-60% of full-time, depending on individual availability and study loads.
