Transfer files

To ease the process of transferring large files between Vagn and Ekman we recommend that you use ffv. Transferring large files from Ekman to the outside world is best done from the node ekman-rsync, and not from the login node.

FFV - The file transfer tool

ffv is an asynchronous file transfer tool for moving large amounts of data locally or remotely. This is the recommended way to transfer data from Ekman to Vagn. Please read more about ffv at the NSC web pages.

Ekman node dedicated to file transfers

On Ekman the node:

ekman-rsync.pdc.kth.se

is equipped with a 1 GB connection to the external world. This makes ekman-rsync the node to use for large file transfers (scp, rsync...). Any Ekman user can login on this node in exactly the same way as you login to Ekman's login node, ekman.pdc.kth.se.

Please remember that you always connect to any node directly from your own local computer, and not through other nodes on ekman! To protect Ekman's login node and to reduce the temptation to make large file transfers out of that node the CPU time for any user process is limited to 10 minutes on that node.
