Usage policy

Usage policy. READ THIS FIRST!

Queue management:

During daytime (between 9:00-21:00 all days) the machine will have two separate queues with different maximum time limits. One queue is for more interactive, shorter jobs and the second queue is for longer jobs that may use checkpointing. The short queue is for use by SBI only.

The time limits of the shorter queue are:

  • 30 minutes for 1024 or 512 node jobs
  • 1 hour for 128 and 32 node jobs

The time limits on the longer queue are:

  • 4 hours for 512, 128 and 32 node jobs.

The longer queue will only start jobs on half the machine, while short jobs can run on the whole machine.

At all other times there is a job time limit of 8 hours on the whole machine.

The system will take care of selecting the proper queue/class for the submitted jobs and make sure that jobs don't violate the policy. This means that all jobs must specify a proper hard wall clock limit in the job descripion file that is submitted.

Authorized policy exceptions:

If a deadline is approaching for a conference or paper, usage policy limits can be relaxed temporarily. This can happen at most twice a year for each user.

Group priorities:

Job priorities will be based on how much of the total available computing time the users in the same group has used during the last 3 months. During daytime, jobs in the short queue will also be favored.
